Normandy

The past three days on went on one of the coolest trips I've taken so far, visiting the D-Day Beaches. We left from London by train and arrived in Paris where we stayed the night in a hostel. In the morning we took another train to the small town of Bayeux on the French Coast. Bayeux is around 5 miles from Omaha Beach and the majority of the D-Day sites. To reach these we took a van tour which picked us up at our hotel. The tour included Point du Hoc where the Rangers had to climb a cliff to attack a German gun position, the famous Omaha Beach, the American Cemetary, and a gun battery known as Longues-sur-Mer. It was incredible to actually be somewhere where such an important event took place. The American Cemetary was particurally moving. In it were the graves of General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. and the Family that inspired Saving Private Ryan. After the tour we returned to Bayeux and ate at a small restaurant. The meal was one of the best I've had in Europe. Mine consisted of a seafood appetizer (shrimp, oysters, and sea snails), steak with bernaise sauce, and a applie pie appetizer. The next morning we headed back to Paris and than London where I'll be until the 5th when I leave for Alicante, Spain.
